My entire life I have struggled with my weight, my relationship with food, and my body image. I was addicted to processed and fast food, never feeling satiated and constantly torn between restrictive and binge eating. In 2012 my weight, hormones and internal thoughts spiraled out of control. I went through an eating disorder, took diet pills, laxatives, fat burners, fat blockers, went vegan, did juice cleanses, over-exercised and under-ate, you name it – I tried it. Because of all this abuse I unknowingly did to my body, in 2014 I was diagnosed with a thyroid autoimmune condition. My doctors told me I would have this for the rest of my life, and most likely would never be able to have children. They told me there is absolutely nothing I could do about my diagnosis - they gave me a prescription I would have to take for the rest of my life and said “it’s just your genetics.”
It is said that your struggles along the way are just there to shape your purpose.
Today, because I didn’t listen to the disempowering advice my doctors gave me, I live autoimmune disease and prescription free. I am metabolically healthy with an absolutely beautiful relationship with whole, nutrient-dense foods. I no longer define health by what it shows on the scale, and I am now pregnant with my first child that I had absolutely no problems conceiving.
How did I do it? I questioned my Doctors. I questioned my diagnosis. I questioned the pharmaceutical industry. I questioned the food pyramid. I had hope and faith in my miraculous body that if given the right things, it could heal itself. I used food and herbs as medicine, not prescription drugs or OTC medication. It took a lot of research, and a lot of trial and error; but because of what I learned along the way, I knew I had to help others just like myself who were struggling. I quit my very comfortable corporate sales position to become a board certified Nutritional Therapy Practitioner. I now help to empower and educate women on the healing capabilities within their own bodies, and finally discover what healthy truly feels like.
